Abstract
The automotive world today is focusing to reduce the effects of global warming allegedly caused partly from exhaust emissions of engines. Engines are designed to operate with a particular type of fuel and it can deliver its best with only that fuel, whether diesel, gasoline, or any particular fuel blend. A vegetable oil-based biodiesel calls for modifications in the engine to achieve the balanced mix of power, emission and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics. The major limitations for biodiesel in a diesel engine are fuel viscosity and auto ignition temperature of the fuel. These limitations can be overcome by thermally insulating and increasing the combustion chamber temperature.
