(Gmki) On the Quality of Youth Human Resources in North

ABSTRACT

Youth organizations play an important role to improve the human resource quality of youth,

either as the agent of change, agent of development, or agent of modernization. This research

is quantitative and qualitative research which aims to analyze the influence of the role GMKI

as the agent of change, agent of development, and agent of modernization to improve the

human resource quality of the youth in North Sumatera .The research results demonstrates

that the role of GMKI as the agent of change, agent of development, and agent of

modernization has a significant influence of the human resource quality of the youth in Nort

Sumatera. The role of GMKI to improve the human resource quality of youth is 62,7%. The

main obstacle encountered by GMKI Sumut (North Sumatera) to improve the human resource

quality of youth in North Sumaterais the wide range of the development of the human

resource quality that a well-planned and sustanaible work programs are required. That other

obstacle is the limited number of personnel of GMKI Sumut particularly to improve the

human resource quality of youth. It is conlulated that the Indonesian Christian Collage

Students movement as is youth organization provides an important contribution to improve

the human resource quality in North Sumatera.

The Big Indonesian Dictionary defines youth as young people; a broader description of the

definition of youth is stated in Law No. 40 of 2009 Article 1 point (1), namely: "Youth are

Indonesian citizens who enter an important period of growth and development, aged 16

(sixteen) to 30 (three twenty years. "Youth have a major role in social change in the

environment and in a wider scope, such as agents of change; then they must ensure that they

are ready to become a generation of modifiers; Youth as agents of development, youth can

contribute to physical and non-physical builders, Youth as a modernization agent; can be a

pioneer in reform.

History has proven how the role and influence of youth in fighting for Indonesian

independence. Starting with the establishment of Budi Utomo. Then there were also several

universities in Indonesia, which for various parties the international world was considered

late. Special attention to the student community in Indonesia comes from the World Student

Christian Federation (WSCF), which was established in 1895. A Christian student

organization founded by Christian student organizations founded by Christian student

organizations from various countries based on the ecumenical movement mission (GMKI )

GMKI Medan cadre education is understood as a systematic and continuous process. This is

the basic foundation for the basic education system to be a very important part. Through the

existing vision and mission, it will produce cadres who have high values of spirituality,

intellectuality and professionalism. Through spirituality by pledging allegiance and serving

will produce cadres with integrity who are honest, loyal and disciplined. Produce cadres of

professionals who have leadership, managerial, effective learning. In this study aims to find

out how the role of GMKI in improving the quality of human resources of youth. The

characteristics of respondents in this study include the characteristics of age, sex, education

and employment

Material and Method

This type of research is quantitative and qualitative research. This research was conducted on

eleven cities in North Sumatra; Medan, Sidikalang, Siantar, Tarutung, Kabanjahe, Padang

Sidimpuan, Sibolga, Teluk Dalam, Gunung Sitoli and Rantau Prapat. The selection of

research locations was determined purposively, based on considerations of cities where

GMKI grew and had existence. It can be seen from the activeness of the organization and its

activities. The population of the study was 3,190 GMKI members in North Sumatra, aged 16-

30 years. In this study the sample calculation will use the Frank Lynch calculation formula:

The data collected consists of primary data and secondary data. Primary data is data that is

directly collected in the form of direct observation and questionnaire. While secondary data is

data that is the result of gathering people or institutions in the form of publications, reports,

documents, and other books related to this research. The primary data examined using a

questionnaire with a Likert scale

Table 1. shows that the residual value of probability (asymp.sig. 2-tailed) is 0.596, greater

than sig-α (0.05), so that it can be concluded that the research data is normally distributed.
