Status of Digital Resource and Its Utility in

Bangalore University Library

Abstract

As we are living in the Digital world the Higher educational institutions are slanting

towards Digital resources. The Bangalore University Library has been subscribed e- journals and from the first instalment of it a member of UGC-INFONET Consortia. The

present study made on evaluating the digital resources and usage pattern by the users of

Bangalore University Library.

1. Introduction

Digital collections are being

created today for diverse communities

and in different fields e.g. e-books, e- journals, e-prints, e-portal etc.

Academic and Research work is

rapidly changing it’s phase of

development because of the

availability of free digital Library

software packages and Digital open

Access initiative. Sharing of

information in the form of digital

library collections has become an

attractive and time saving process for

library and information professionals.

The digital collection development

cover a variety of activities i.e., the

digital collection building, digitization,

digital collection, maintenance, and

digital preservation.

1.1. Objectives

1. To understand the familiarity and

usefulness of internet resources for

digital collections

2. To know what problems users

encounter when consulting these

resources.

3. To know the purpose and

frequency of use of various

electronic and web based services

of digital collections

4. To study the level of satisfaction

users about availability and

coverage of electronic information

resources in digital libraries.

1.2 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The scope of this research is

limited to the study Bangalore University

library of Digital Resources. Focus is

clearly and digital information in digital

resources in Bangalore university library

students and research scholars.

1.3 Methodology

The questionnaire method was

used to collect primary data in this study.

The purpose this study, secondary data and

information was collected from library and

internet. A structured questionnaire

seeking information on digital library

collections, digital information

competency, collections and digital

resources the role played by the library.

humanities faculty of Bangalore

University. Each and every respondent was

personally interviewed to collect the

relevant information.

2. REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Harriett, Green E Courtney & Angela

(2015) made an analysis of how

humanities scholars use digital collections

in their research and the ways in which

digital collections could be enhanced for

scholarly use. The authors surveyed and

interviewed humanities faculty from

twelve research universities about their

research practices with digital collections

and present analysis of the resulting

responses.

Kumar, Kutty (2014) studied the

initiatives on digital collection and

development in engineering college

libraries in the Rayalaseema Region of

Andhra Pradesh. Eighty-one engineering

college libraries in this region which have

been surveyed to assess the initiatives

taken on digital collection and

development. This paper highlights

opinions of librarians on most preferred

digital materials and various digital

resources acquainted with their library.

3. ANLYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

DATA

Information thus obtained was

carefully edited before taking data entry

into computer. Once satisfied with the

filled-in information in the questionnaires,

the data were entered into computer and

analyzed using the SPSS statistical

software. The observations and

interpretation were carefully tabulated and

supplemented with graphical presentation

to allow clear understanding of the

respondent’s views.

4.1 Percentage Analysis:

The percentage analysis is a measure of statistics indicating the value below which a

given percentage of observations in a group of observations fall. A percentile analysis clearly

tells us what percent of other scores is less than the data point we are investigating.
