Make In India: A Growing Initiative

ABSTRACT
Make in India campaign is initiated for the purpose of inviting various commercial sector from all
over the world to manufacture their products in India and sell them anywhere they like. Make in
India was a timely response to the critical situation when gross domestic product growth slowed
down in 2013. Make in India came at a right time with lots of benefits and advantages for the
Indian economy. The aim of Make in India is to make India a global manufacturing hub. This
paper elucidates the objectives, important points and positive aspects of Make in India initiative.

INTRODUCTION
The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra
Modi launched the Make in India campaign
on September 25, 2014 in New Delhi. The
aim of this campaign is to grow up the
manufacturing sector, providing the
employment opportunities, skill development
and protect the intellectual property of
entrepreneurs. Make in India campaign is
very important for industrial development, it
will boost the trade of India and reduce
India’s current account deficit. The main aim
of make in India campaign is to increase the
share of manufacturing sector in India’s GDP
to 25% by 2022 which is expected to
generate approximately 100 million jobs.
This campaign launched to create
employment for Indian workers and self- employment opportunities for youth. The
make in India campaign also attempts to
enforce the inflow of Foreign Direct
Investment in the country. The campaign is
fully under control of Central Government of
India. For the success of this campaign, it is
necessary that India encourage high-tech
imports and motivated to do world class
research and development. The Government
of India has identified the 25 priority sectors
that will be promoted adequately under this
campaign. The key phrase of this campaign
is ‘zero defect zero effect’. Within short
period of time, there are many instances of
the success of this campaign. This initiative
is very important for economic growth of
India as it provides the new employment
opportunities and empower the secondary
and territory sector. Make in India campaign
encourages foreign and domestic companies
to invest their money and manufacture their
products in India.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS INITIATIVE
The objectives of make in India campaign
are as follows:-

key sectors. Currently,
manufacturing sector contributes
nearly 15% to national GDP. The
aim is to grow this percentage to
25% by the year 2022.
Providing job opportunities to the
youth of India as more employment
in the country will boost the
purchasing power of common man.
To raise the rank of India on ‘ease of
doing business’ by making all the
approval process simpler and
eliminating the unnecessary laws
and regulations.
To protect the intellectual property
by having strong and effective laws
with regard to IP rights so that
research and development can be
encourage in India. IP is one of the
most important assets of the
startups. Protecting the IP will give
a boost to the startups.
To built best in class infrastructure
because infrastructure is integral
part of the growth of any industry.
For this Govt. intends to develop the
smart cities and industrial corridors
with high speed communication and
technology. Because poor
infrastructure deferring the foreign
investors to invest in India.
To produce zero defect products by
improving the quality manufacturing
standards to minimize the impact on
environment.
To facilitate investment and
innovation in India.

MAKE IN INDIA CAMPAIGN
( 1 ) LOGO:-
The logo for make in India Campaign
is an elegant lion, inspired by the
India’s national emblem Ashok
Chakra and designed to represent
India’s success in all spheres. The
wheel denotes the peaceful progress
and dynamism.
( 2 ) Web Portal and Brochure:-
For promoting the make in India
Campaign web portal and separate
brochures are used. The brochures
will provide details of growth drivers,
investment opportunities, FDI and
other specific policies related to that
sectors and details of relevant
agencies. A web portal ( www.
makeinindia.com ) has been created
for easy and effective communication
of investors. This web site has a set of
FAQs which help the investors to find
quick answers to their general
queries.
( 3 ) E-Biz Portal:-
This portal is a Government to
business portal which is being set up
for delivering the services to
investors and to address the needs of
business. Businesses that are
operating in India or want to start
operation in India can use the portal
to obtain licences, approvals,
clearances, no objection certificates

This Campaign focuses on creating number of jobs and skill enhancement in almost 25 sectors for
improving the status of youths of the country.

This initiative recognizes ‘ease of
doing business’ as most important
factor to promote entrepreneurship.
The Govt. is introducing many
reforms to create possibilities for
getting FDI and foster business
partnerships. A number of initiatives
have been undertaken to alleviate the
business environment from outdated
rules and regulations.
New Infrastructure:-
Under this initiative the Govt. intends
to develop industrial corridors,
industrial clusters and smart cities,
create world class infrastructure.
Innovation and research activities are
supported through a fast paced
registration and improved
infrastructure for IPR registration.
The requirement of skills for industry
is to be identified and training for
skilled workforce for the sectors is
also being implemented.
