Abstract

Plagiarism is an academic, ethical and legal issue. It has serious social, socio economic and psychological implication for the young graduates in term of their prospects for higher education, employment and for the teachers in terms of their worth and dignity as role models as well as professionals. Parents help their youngsters in understanding that the goal of getting education is not simply to finish assignments as fast as possible but to understand the ideas and the real concept, which help them in their practical life throughout. Therefore, parents have a direct role and stake in the issue of plagiarism especially at the education institutions where their children study. So the current research study was conducted to collect the opinion and views of post-graduate parents of Punjab University students. The study was taken at University of the Punjab Lahore New Campus and Old Campus. Research team used survey method to conduct the study and draw sample through purposive sampling technique a type of probability sampling. Keeping in view the nature of study, Questionnaire used as a tool of data collection. Total sample size was of 402 respondents and Postgraduate parents of Punjab university students were the respondents of this study. It was found that 77% respondents had knowledge about plagiarism and highest response 48% recently heard about the term. Source of information about plagiarism was friends 27% and Children 26% respectively. Parents considered causes of plagiarism among youngster’s as it is an easy way to get good marks. 43% declared that plagiarism is an unethical act and 36% respondents considered it as a crime. 31% of all said that it could be lack of professional skills. So it is necessary to arrange training to avoid plagiarism among young research community by institutions. It is also necessary to organize orientation training about plagiarism. A policy should be made in order to control plagiarism in Pakistan.
