Abstract
The concept of Consumer Protection is not new in India. It is as old as trade and commerce itself, Kautilys’s Arthashastra Preaches the significance of Consumer Protection from exploitation, underweight, adulteration etc., It also highlights the strict enforcement of punishment to the cheaters. Even then, the consumers are continuously cheated by the cunning and greedy businessmen. Hence effective protection becomes imperative to the consumers. Enactment of Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was one of the most important steps taken to protect the rights of the consumers. The Act safeguard the economic interests of the consumer and ensures the free and fair trade and commerce to some extent. The consumers are now aware of their rights. They are now aware of the fraudulent business and are ready to take the legal remedy. The Indian trade and commerce, steadily move towards a new dawn. A real consumer’s day will come where one can’t experience any fraudulence.
