Abstract
Informed investors are intelligent investors. The Government of India through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduce stringent measures from time to time to ensure that the listed companies disclose sufficient information to its various stakeholders especially the investors. Both the MCA and the SEBI are also taking necessary steps to streamline sustainable business practices by corporates and disclosing the same through appropriate channels. In this article, we intend to study the level of importance given by retail investors to various sources of information including the sustainability reports/business responsibility reports and profile them accordingly. Administering a structured questionnaire consisting of 13 different sources of information to a randomly chosen sample of 428 equity investors we found that more than 50 per cent of the respondents are ‘advice seekers’. Remaining are ‘conventional source users’(30%) followed by ‘informed investors’ (20%).Findings of this study have implications for regulators, corporates, stock-broking firms and investors.
