Abstract

Identifying the self is an incessant quest among the African Americans. Why do they search for their genealogy?  It is a question which is to be answered for the readers of the Toni Morison. A person is provided an existence in a society on the basis of belongingness to past but the blacks struggle to find repute in the American society where their past is erased at the cost of living in a new white world of America. The Africans feel strange to live with the whites with an inseparable weight of the pathetic begging past and their blackness which really make them subject to oddity in the white America.
