Abstract

In the 21st century world, the GCC countries has become a hub of highest destination for the contractual labourers from the South Asian countries dominated by unskilled and semi-skilled workers.India is the core labourers producing country among the south Asian region.The reason is due to the India’s huge proportions of unemployment, low wages, poverty and corruption.  Earlier, South Indian states such as Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were having highest emigrant workers to the GCC nations but the scenario is being changing gradually due to changing socio-economic conditions and employment opportunities. states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are emerging as alternative source of labourers to the GCC countries. In this context, the study tries to understand the socio-economic profile of the emigrant from the Gorakhpur. The objective of the study is to critically analyse the socio-economic impact of remittances and at the same time highlights the dynamic of problems in terms of their nature and the content of Indian labourers in GCC. The study has used both the Qualitative and Quantitative methods for the data collection.
