Abstract
In this paper, we propose negative binomial hidden Markov model for the modeling of Acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) cases reported in Kerala. The parameters of the model are estimated using EM algorithm and the sequence of hidden states are obtained using the best fitted model. The transition probabilities of the hidden markov chain are obtained.
