Abstract
Jasmonic acid and its derivatives are collectively called “jasmonates” are naturally occurring regulators involved in the tree growth and development. The endogenous and exogenous effects varied and involved in the induction of plant defense mechanisms for both biotic and abiotic stresses, chilling injuries and fruit ripening. Jasmonates are widely used to improve the postharvest storage life, decay loss and defensive mechanism against postharvest diseases of many tropical and subtropical fruits. This review summarises the various application of jasmonates and derivatives on growth, physiology, protection from stresses in modern fruit production.
