Abstract
Due to rapidly increasing complexity of the software system, a large number of test cases are required to execute for effective verification and validation that increases the time and cost. As software advancement goes on, the system needs to be retested again and again to checks its validity;therefore, regression testing is used in achieving this goal. Regression testing can be divided into different categories; one of the important categories is prioritization of test casesthat states the sequence of test execution. These techniques are used by the software testers to minimize the regression testing’s cost without any impact on software effectiveness. The functional efficiency of these techniques is evaluated on the basis of different metrics as APFD and APFDc. Present paper gives a comparative overview of various techniques used for test cases prioritization for the software system.Studies with prioritization of test cases in regression testing between years 2015-2018 are analysed and gave an understanding of the problem currently occurring in test case prioritization and guide for future research in test case prioritization.
