Abstract

The gradual increase in the concentration of CO2in atmosphere is observed by 31 % subsequently since 1750 from different anthropogenic practices like fossil fuel burning and changes in land use system causing considerable global warming. Worldwide population is facing the adverse effect of global warming due to emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.Average surface temperature of Earthis expected to increase from a 1.30F over the last century to 3.2 to 7.2 degrees over the 21st century. Carbon sequestration is a practicewhere CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and stored in the various carbon sinks like soil, vegetation, oceans etc.Entrapment or capturing carbon (C) from atmosphere and storing in different kinds of reservoirs is an important process to mitigate climate change which we simply understand as carbon sequestration. The stored carbon can be termed as carbon pools which has the capability to hoard/discharge C and can be altered by natural or anthropogenic practices.
