Abstract
Fruits are considered as one of the most important source of vitamins, calcium, iron, proteins and moisture. They are well known for their use in cosmetic, processing and pharmaceutical industries and are rich in their nutritional and medicinal value. However, 30 percent of the fruits are affected or damaged by the insect-pests or post harvest diseases during transport and preservation. New technologies have evolved in edible coatings in order to lengthen the shelf life of fruits. A fit for human consumption coating is a thin layer of suitable for eating utilized on the fruit as an alternative of herbal shielding waxy layer and reduces the decay and enhances shelf life of fruits. They are derived from quite a number sources like biomolecule, plant driven and Nanoemulsions.
