Abstract
Mussoorie, a popular hill station located in the northern state of Uttarakhand in India, faces several challenges and opportunities as a tourist destination. The town's scenic beauty and pleasant climate attract a large number of domestic and international tourists every year. However, rapid urbanization, unplanned development, and environmental degradation pose a significant threat to its natural resources and overall sustainability.
The paper aims to explore the challenges and opportunities for Mussoorie as a tourist destination. It begins by discussing the historical significance and evolution of Mussoorie as a popular tourist spot. The paper then highlights the challenges, including overcrowding, traffic congestion, and waste management, that the town faces due to the influx of tourists.
Further, the paper examines the opportunities that Mussoorie can leverage to promote sustainable tourism. These include developing eco-tourism, promoting local handicrafts, and offering adventure activities. The paper also emphasizes the need for community participation and collaboration between the government, local residents, and tourism stakeholders to ensure sustainable tourism development in Mussoorie.
