Abstract
The state domestic product (SDP) commonly known as state income is one of the important indicators to measure the economic development of the state. Both Punjab and Haryana are the neighboring states of India. These states have played an active role in bringing about green revolution in the Indian economy. During the 1970’s, Punjab was projected as a role model of development for the other states and Haryana was the first state in the country to achieve 100 per cent rural electrification in the same year. These states have also achieved a phenomenal growth in the field of net state domestic product (NSDP). No doubt, both of these states have experienced significant structural transformation but the process accelerated with the country’s adoption of a new economic policy by the country in 1991. The main objectives of the study examined the growth and pattern of NSDP and comparative analysis of Punjab and Haryana. The study has been based on secondary data collected from various issues of Statistical Abstracts of Punjab and Haryana and covering the period from 1991-92 to 2015-16.
